2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS revealed at E3

Porsche chose to unveil its 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS at E3 yesterday. Just after Microsoft revealed the new Xbox One X console, their smallest and most powerful gaming console to date, the new 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS was shown to the public for the first time. The GT2 RS is extreme in both appearance and performance, featuring the most powerful road going engine ever offered in a 911. As Dan Greenawalt of Turn 10 Studios mentioned at the reveal, this is the first time a flagship supercar has been debuted at E3.

The fact that it’s being debuted for a Microsoft game is a big deal as well. Gamers have been begging to see more of a Porsche presence on consoles for years now, especially on either of the two major consoles that offer sim-like racing experiences (Xbox or Playstation). Until now, they’ve mostly had to settle for Porsche either being featured in less-hardcore arcade games like Need for Speed, or as paid downloadable content, several months after a game launches. As of the end of last year, EA’s exclusive license of the Porsche brand is finally dead and with this (not to mention the Porsche pack on Forza Horizon 3) we’re already seeing the benefits of Microsoft’s new 6 year deal with Porsche. The GT2 RS reveal starts at 46:05 in the video below. Watch the whole video to hear additional details on the Xbox One X and Forza 7.

A release date of October 3, 2017 was shown in the video for Forza 7, but details are scarce right now on the GT2 RS. It will produce 640 horsepower from a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six out back, powering the rear wheels, while gears are likely changed via a PDK gearbox. More details and images will be posted here as they’re made available.
